Murihiku Pounamu is a whanau led pounamu carving business based in Southland. Our mahi involves a weaving of three core strands:
  1. Mahi Wairua – Working with you to create personalized taoka of spiritual significance.
  2. Mahi Mātauraka – Working within schools and public groups guiding you to create your own taoka pounamu and learning about Te ao Māori along the way
  3. Mahi Pakihi – Taking taoka to the wider market of Aotearoa and beyond

Our tikanga

In all aspects of our mahi, we can provide you with a unique personal service. We will work closely with you to harness the wairua of both you and the pounamu. Together in korero we will create a personalised taoka steeped in whakapapa and wairua as a guardian, a healer and a waka of tupuna.

Gavin Thomson is of Ngai Tahu , Kati Mamoe, Waitaha, Te Rapuwai and Nga Puhi descent and all of his mahi is inspired by the footsteps of his Tupuna
